Approaching the Elbow Aintree is a beautiful oil painting on canvas of Aintree Racecourse, Liverpool during the Grand National Festival in April. My reference photographs were taken from the rail of the public enclosure during the Topham chase. This scene is rather typical of the final straight, often with a loose horse or two as they approach the elbow for the final run to the line. I was also attracted by the background, the coach park, housing and the light you get on cold spring days.
Additional information, the winning horse is Cadmium, jockey Paul Townend and trainer Willie Mullins
