Baltimore Castle and Agapanthus

Baltimore Castle or Dún a Séad Castle dominates the village of Baltimore in West Cork. This painting takes an unusual angle looking up at the castle from below when the Agapanthus were in flower in mid summer. The castle was built by the Normans in 1215 , the present owners bought it in a state ot ruin and spent a number of years restoring it. Baltimore is a historic and vibrant fishing village and the ferry port to Sherkin and Cape Clear Islands and a very popular holiday destination.
