On the high moor

On the high moor is an oil painting of a grey Dartmoor hill pony grazing on Dartmoor near Haytor rocks. This pony is typical of the semi wild hill ponies that have been gazing here for thousands of years. This is not a pedigree Dartmoor pony which are brown or bay with no white markings but still a native moorland pony. The Dartmoor pony stud book was only created about 100 years ago. I visit this part of Devon often as I grew up close by.

Thunder - SOLD

Thunder is a large head study in oils of a thoroughbred racehorse. I have done a series of paintings influenced by mist and low light, it's a subject that interests me as I try to get away from the more usual views of horse racing.  The atmosphere, expression of the horse and the colours used in the painting suggested the title. The original reference for this is from my own photographs taken at Aintree racecourse.

The original painting is available from The Art Collective at Gra Coffee Bar Nass, Co. Kildare contact Susan MacMillan 0872611540

Noble

'Noble' is the title of this oil painting on canvas of a striking grey thoroughbred racehorse. While he strode around the parade ring at the Curragh Racecourse, I reflected on the fact in a few moments he would show incredible power and speed on the track. Horses are such a noble animals, full of power, grace and courage.
